Past Events

  • February 25, 2014  Fashion Show - Click HERE for article and pictures.

  • The Friends Loved Lucy -  On Saturday, October 13, 2012, the Friends hosted a bus trip to the Broadway Playhouse in Chicago. A continental breakfast, shopping , and box lunch were enjoyed by all. The stage play “I Love Lucy” was hilarious. Many thanks to all who helped make this outing so much fun: Jill Guetreuter, Kathie Sessions, Sara Davis, Shelby McFann, Annie Eckich, Marita Maloley, Patty Arata, Jane Wilks, MaryLou Hipskind, Mary Campbell, and coordinator Carole Fuller. Special thanks to Chris Mallers for the complimentary wine. Proceeds from the trip go for our music education programs. Link

  • April 2012 Rummage Sale - Our fourth annual Rummage Sale was a great success as we raised close to $8,000 of operational funds for the Friends. Thanks to Amy Beatty for her leadership on this project once again. We're probably leaving some people out, but thanks to all the donors who supplied items for the sale, everybody who helped and staffed the sale itself, especially John McFann, Sue Lehmann, Peter Lehmann, Rebecca Ravine, Barb Mansfield, Nellie Bee friends of Friends for their time an effort in collecting and organizing the donations and sent many days sorting and pricing. Special thanks are also due Jeff Sebeika, Phil Board Member and Subway franchise owner for feeding the ravenous staff on both sale days and to Hanning & Bean for providing the sale location. Thanks also to Paul Keebler and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for volunteering to include the remains of our sale in Jill Sample's  Auction to Find a Cure fundraiser that was held at K's location on April 22. (You saved us a lot of cleanup work Paul!!) Click HERE to see what you missed.

  • December 2011 Bus Trip -  Who knew you could drive to Chicago to see Memphis? That's just what we did on Dec 3 when we rode a sold out bus to see "Memphis the Musical" at the Cadillac Palace Theatre.

  • Indianapolis Holiday Bus Trip - We shopped and enjoyed  the 2010 Yuletide Celebration as five-time Grammy winner Sandi Patty reunited with Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra's Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly and hosted Indiana's finest holiday extravaganza, the Duke Energy Yuletide Celebration. For 25 years, families have enjoyed this musical program featuring Broadway actors, flying reindeer, tap dancing Santas and the most treasured music in the holiday songbook. Click here to get an idea of the program.

  • Ann Arbor Street Art Fair - Thanks to Mary Campbell and Marylou Hipskind. A really fun day was had by those who took advantage of a comfortable bus trip with lots of goodies to the Ann Arbor Art Fair on July 15, 2009. There was no fighting traffic or dealing with parking. The bus driver accommodated shoppers by making the bus available mid-day for stashing purchases. The fair is quite a spectacle with vendors literally from coast to coast, selling trinkets, costly art, and innovations new to the art world. The weather was pleasant, the food fabulous, and the service from our hostesses and their volunteers made for a very delightful day. We all look forward to fun when these hostesses have another event.

  • A Taste of the Classics - Alicia Pyle, noted Fort Wayne classical & jazz pianist, gave a benefit recital at Sweetwater Sound on April 30, 2009. All proceeds went to support the Philharmonic Friends ongoing scholarship and educational programs. Alicia was the featured pianist for the 2006 Fort Wayne Philharmonic Gala after winning the Philharmonic Friends 2005 Young Artists Competition.

  • The Art Strings Auction was held on on November 13, 2008 and was a great event with good food, good company and a dynamite auctioneer! Click here to see what you missed! All of the violins, which were transformed into original works of art by local artists, were sold. Many of the artists attended the event making the evening even more fun. The proceeds of the sale will go toward funding the Friends' education programs. Special thanks to Cynthia Fyock of Calhoun Street Emporium for contacting and working with the artists and Rebecca Ravine for arranging the venue at the Summit Club as well as the other volunteers and supporters listed here.
